FAQs
What is BJJ?
BJJ, or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, is a form of grappling martial art that originated in Brazil. Takedowns and submission holds are used to control and subdue an opponent.
In this club we train “sport” BJJ. That is, we teach BJJ that is meant for grappling competitions. We are not focused on BJJ for self-defence or MMA.
Why do you only teach No-Gi BJJ?
We are lovers of all jiu jitsu and are proponents of gi jiu jitsu. However, we are a brand new gym and are starting with a program that has the lowest barrier to entry for new students. As the school grows, we plan on adding a gi program .
It’s my first class, what should I wear?
If you do not have grappling-specific clothing, we recommend the following: a t-shirt (with a sports bra underneath for women) for your torso. For your lower body, we recommend wearing an underlayer of yoga pants/tights or compression shorts with some regular shorts on top.
